Alan J. Cuteri, AIA, LEED 2.0
Principal for Higher Education projects at Strada, Alan has worked for the past twenty-five years creating places that support the educational, research and social environments that are critical to the higher education experience. Alan's expertise in historic and adaptive re-use projects provides institutional clients with an expanded array of opportunities to meet their design and programming goals within existing and historic structures. Alan uses the collaborative design process that engages the stakeholders and results in exemplary design solutions that exceed expectations. Alan is recognized for his intuitive ability to translate client interests into innovative and creative building solutions. He is a trusted design partner for his college and university clients and actively leads the design team to ensure project success and client satisfaction. Alan's projects have won eight awards for design and historic preservation.
Alan has completed hundreds of educational projects for clients such as the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and West Virginia University, including master plans, historic feasibility evaluations, laboratories, lecture halls and offices. Alan has also designed and managed multi-unit residential projects, specialty residential facilities and religious and special use facilities such as the University of Pittsburgh Public Safety Building. As a LEED certified design professional, he incorporates sustainable design standards and ideas as part of the collaborative design process for every project.
Alan, a member of Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), is one of the first 28 professionals worldwide who earned a certificate of completion from the SCUP Planning Institute. He also serves as the Western PA Membership Chair of SCUP's Mid-Atlantic region and chairs the Penn Liberty Local Review Committee for the Historic Review Commission of Pittsburgh. Alan received his architectural education from Carnegie Mellon University and graduated in 1981.
