Michael Stern Named Chairman of ULI Pittsburgh District Council

PITTSBURGH, PA – Michael A. Stern, ASLA has been elected to serve as Chairman of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Pittsburgh District Council. As the Chairman of the District Council Executive Committee, he will help coordinate programming activities, work to increase membership and continue to expand ULI’s collaboration with other organizations interested in real estate and land use issues. Michael, an active member in ULI, serves on the Inner-City Council, national advisory panels, and recently published an article in Urban Land magazine titled “Pittsburgh Forges Ahead.” Michael Stern is a principal at Strada where he has been involved in many of Pittsburgh’s major urban design and planning efforts. He served as the project director and urban designer for the Department of City Planning on the Pittsburgh Downtown Plan, the first comprehensive master plan for the greater Downtown area in 35 years. Other recent projects include the Pittsburgh Regional Parks Master Plan, the Downtown Bedford Revitalization Plan, a downtown revitalization plan for Washington, PA, and the plan for the revitalization of Pittsburgh’s Fifth and Forbes retail district. Michael has lectured widely and published and edited numerous articles and journals on urban design and landscape design theory. He is also a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and Congress for New Urbanism (CNU). The Urban Land Institute is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members. Founded in 1936, the institute now has more than 25,000 members worldwide representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines, working in private enterprise and public service.
