- Strada Principals Available as Resources for Reporters
PITTSBURGH, PA – Experts in architecture and the industries they serve, Strada’s principals are available for comment on a variety of issues facing Pittsburgh and the region. Topics include urban planning, retail and corporate development, historic preservation, neighborhood conservation, public landscapes, K-12 and higher education, and green design. Michael A. Stern, ASLA, an expert in urban planning and public landscapes, has been involved in many of Pittsburgh’s major urban design and planning efforts. He served as the project director and urban designer for the Pittsburgh Downtown Plan and was part of the planning team for the Pittsburgh Regional Parks Master Plan before the founding of Strada. At Strada, he has led urban design efforts for the Downtown Bedford Revitalization Plan, a downtown revitalization plan for Washington, PA, and the plan for the revitalization of Pittsburgh’s Fifth and Forbes retail district. Active in the Urban Land Institute’s national and local councils, Michael also has lectured widely and published numerous articles and journals on urban design and landscape design theory. John A. Martine, AIA has served on many community and professional boards and participated in over 100 seminars and conferences on historic preservation, neighborhood conservation, adaptive reuse and 19th century style. Currently serving on the City of Pittsburgh Planning Commission, John is well known for his restoration work and designs on the South Side, Shadyside, Lawrenceville, and the North Side. John is an often-recognized architectural designer who is known for his sympathetic approach to new buildings in a historic context and has won over 30 of design awards at both the local and state levels. Alan J. Cuteri, AIA, head of Academic Architecture at Strada, has worked for the past 20 years to create places that support the learning and research environment. Alan has been the principal-in-charge for a large variety of K-12 and college and university projects. He is an active member of the Society of College and University Planners and is training to be a Certified University Planner. In addition, he leads Strada’s sustainable design practice and is LEED 2.0 Certified. Edward A. Shriver, AIA, an expert in corporate and retail development, has over twenty years of retail and corporate project experience ranging from the recent renovation of the Galleria Mall to current work on the North Shore for Continental Real Estate Companies. He is currently the principal-in-charge for the new Equitable Corporate Headquarters and Del Monte Foods Pittsburgh Office projects on the North Shore. Ed is an active member of the International Council on Shopping Centers both locally and nationally. Strada, an architecture, interior design, landscape, and urban design firm, is located in the Pittsburgh Cultural District and was founded by Alan J. Cuteri, AIA, Edward A. Shriver, Jr., AIA, CCS, John A. Martine, AIA, and Michael A. Stern, ASLA. Strada employs 19 creative and passionate individuals who value knowledge, collaboration, and creativity.
