Ed Shriver Serves on ULI Advisory Panel
July 5, 2005

PITTSBURGH, PA – Edward A. Shriver, Jr., AIA, recently served on an Urban Land Institute (ULI) advisory panel to discuss redevelopment strategies for Midtown Plaza and surrounding areas of downtown Rochester, NY. Midtown Plaza, built in the early 1960’s, was one of the first covered urban malls and office complex in the region and the center of the region’s retail. With a steep decline in retail sales due to major tenants exiting for the suburbs, this key area of downtown will be further affected by the new Renaissance Square complex opening in 2009. Ed Shriver, an expert in corporate and retail development, on the interdisciplinary panel that evaluated the plaza and surrounding downtown blocks’ development potential, and made recommendations to achieve those goals. Some of those recommendations included recreating the downtown core as a neighborhood featuring a variety of housing in a range of prices, providing more attractive and street-oriented retail and other businesses that could meet the needs of downtown residents, and featuring downtown as an arts and entertainment hub with a performing arts center and main street art galleries. The panel discussion took place on June 6-10 in Rochester, NY and was sponsored by RDDG, the City of Rochester, Monroe County, and other public and private stakeholders. Ed Shriver has over twenty years of retail and corporate project experience ranging from the remodel of the Galleria Mall to the recent work on the North Shore for Continental Real Estate Companies and the Fifth and Forbes project with Kravco. He is currently leading the new Equitable Corporate Headquarters and Del Monte Foods Pittsburgh Office projects on the North Shore as well as the revitalization plans for downtown Washington, PA.
