- Ed Shriver Serves as Development Strategist on ULI Advisory Panel
PITTSBURGH, PA – Edward A. Shriver, Jr., AIA, recently served on an Urban Land Institute (ULI) advisory panel to discuss the revitalization of the Eastern Market neighborhood in Detroit, MI. Eastern Market is the historic center of food distribution in the South Eastern region of Michigan, and includes wholesale distribution, a public farmers market in operation for over 100 years, and retail/entertainment that has grown up around the food industry. Ed Shriver, an expert in corporate and retail development, participated as a development strategist on the interdisciplinary panel that evaluated the wholesale and retail food districts’ development potential, and made recommendations to achieve those goals. Some of those recommendations included restructuring the management and oversight of the district, new funding mechanisms, new business incubator concepts, and a business improvement district to increase the Market’s financial strength. City of Detroit Chief Development Officer Walt Watkins said he is “very pleased with the outcome of the study. I think the Urban Land Institute team did a tremendous amount of work in a very short period of time and came up with a very comprehensive and complete presentation.” The panel discussion took place on December 6-10 in Detroit, MI and was cosponsored by the Eastern Market Advancement Coalition, Greater Downtown Partnership, City of Detroit, and several other local foundations and companies. Ed Shriver has over twenty years of retail and corporate project experience ranging from the remodel of the Galleria Mall to the recent work on the North Shore for Continental Real Estate Companies and the Fifth and Forbes project with Kravco. He is currently leading the new Equitable Corporate Headquarters and Del Monte Foods Pittsburgh Office projects on the North Shore as well as the revitalization plans for downtown Washington, PA. Strada, an architecture, interior design, landscape, and urban design firm, is located in the Pittsburgh Cultural District and was founded in 2000 by Alan J. Cuteri, AIA, Edward A. Shriver, Jr., AIA, CCS, John A. Martine, AIA, and Michael A. Stern, ASLA. Strada employs 19 creative and passionate individuals who value knowledge, collaboration, and creativity.
