- Larazus Rises Again - Strada's Design for Piatt Place Unveiled
PITTSBURGH, PA – On Monday, December 12, 2005, Millcraft Investments officially announced their purchase of the former Lazarus Department Store in Downtown Pittsburgh and unveiled the new design. The press conference took place inside the building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Wood Street at 10:00 a.m. Millcraft Investments commissioned Strada to design the conversion of the former 265,000 s.f. Lazarus Department Store and turn it into an exciting mixed-use project. The new Piatt Place will include large Class A retail space, sizable floor plate office space with updated business infrastructure, and residential condominiums overlooking the city and arranged around an interior courtyard. The project is located in the heart of the retail district of downtown Pittsburgh, with a 500 car-parking garage below, and is designed to meet LEED sustainable design certification criteria. Strada has a long-standing relationship with Millcraft Investments. Strada and Millcraft collaborated on the “The Crossroads” – the revitalization plan for downtown Washington, PA. In addition to being the master planners for the project, Strada is the design architect and landscape architect for all phases of the project, including the first building under construction, Nationwide Centre. Millcraft Investments is a multi-million dollar operation that has participated in and directed a variety of real estate ventures including industrial properties, commercial office buildings, golf course communities and residential developments.
