John Martine, AIA Appointed to Preservation PA Board
May 31, 2006

PITTSBURGH, PA — John A. Martine, AIA was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Preservation Pennsylvania. Preservation Pennsylvania is a statewide voice for historic preservation in Pennsylvania. This nonprofit organization's mission is to assist Pennsylvania communities to protect and utilize historic resources they want to preserve for the future. The organization is overseen by a board of directors comprised of up to 35 members representing heritage, architecture, planning, business, education, history, government, and other related disciplines. John was invited to join the board because of “his commitment as an architect to excellence in the rehabilitation of historic structures,” said Robert A. Kinsley, II, President of Preservation Pennsylvania. John recently presented “Building Rehab 101” at the 2006 Pennsylvania Heritage Partnerships Conference, sponsored in part by Preservation PA. The seminar discussed ways to preserve historic buildings while meeting current building code requirements. The conference, held May 18-19 in historic Franklin, PA, focused on Pennsylvania’s heritage and historic preservation efforts by citizens, business leaders, and government officials. For over thirty years, John A. Martine, AIA, has produced work that addresses two of the most crucial issues facing American cities today – preserving buildings’ heritages and developing new architecture that fits gracefully into the urban environment. John is a lead design partner at Strada, an award winning Pittsburgh architecture firm. To the design of office buildings, institutions, and residential developments, he brings his preservationist sensibilities, assuring that timeless proportions and details are present. John’s passion for preserving historic buildings that have relevance to the future, and in designing new buildings that honor the past, clearly identifies him as a pioneer in contextually appropriate architectural design. Strada, an architecture, interior design, landscape, and urban design firm, is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Strada embraces projects that create places for people including academic buildings, master plans, mixed-use urban developments, corporate offices, and retail spaces.
