East Darling Harbour
Sydney, Australia
Client: New South Wales Government
The premise of this design proposal is to reveal the history of human interventions and natural formations buried under the site. By bringing forward these historic patterns, the scheme creates a layered richness that ties the new urban district to its past, as well as to its future. Overlaid historical snapshots structure the urban plan, the organizing grid of the city, the current boundaries of the site, the footprints of the industrial wharfs that occupied the site until the 1960s, and the original shoreline which is now fully obliterated.
