This renovation and addition project presented multiple challenges. The original Art Deco school was built on top of a hill overlooking the neighborhood with an additional classroom wing added in the 1950’s. The building program was to reorganize the existing facilities and add a new wing containing an up-to-date cafeteria and gymnasium. Creating new student entries at either end of the addition and a central courtyard from a service drive, were key elements of the plan, which also solved the serious accessibility problems.
