Cup and Chaucer Cafe at the Hillman Library

Pittsburgh, PA

Client: Unversity of Pittsburgh

The Cup and Chaucer reading room, which derives its name from a Chaucer Manuscript owned by the Library, was carved out of an alcove of the Hillman Library. In service for many years, the coffee shop needed a new look and feel to accommodate new programming. The new design creates a variety of seating opportunities, an expanded coffee and snack menu, and allows coffeehouse-style entertainment. The display case for the manuscript serves as a performance backdrop for solo musicians and poetry readings.
